-- The Iowa Report Welcome to the Iowa Healthcare Collaborative's (IHC) Iowa Report, a public report that presents information on national, state, and Medicare-certified hospital-specific quality and patient safety performance. Within Iowa, IHC has been the trusted leader in providing non-mandated, transparent, and responsible public reporting of Iowa hospital performance since 2005. We believe this collaborative, community-based effort helps support our vision of a healthcare culture of continuous improvement in quality, safety, and value. Over the years, our scope of public reporting has grown along with national efforts to increase the availability of healthcare performance information. Currently, the Iowa Report presents hospital quality/safety performance utilizing over 100 metrics. What is "Quality"? Quality in healthcare, including in hospitals, can be described as "doing the right thing, at the right time, in the right way and having the best possible results." Why is this information important to you? Our goal is to give you information you can use to increase your chances of getting the best possible hospital care when you need it. This report is intended to engage you, the patient, in your healthcare decisions. Take a few minutes and look for different patterns in the information, find a hospital that is especially good at treating the condition you have, compare the quality of hospitals nearest you. Most importantly, it is your healthcare. You have the ability to take control of your healthcare choices. As a patient, you can help improve the quality of your healthcare through a number of different ways: bring this information to your doctor, talk with your doctor about what matters to you, speak up when you do not understand something, and come prepared with questions.
